It's hard to know where to start describing the UN. It is the ultimate example of partnership relationships but I guess like so many partnerships it is at the heart of many controversies and disputes as well.
I had no ideas just how extensive their operations were.
I'll come back and add to this post over the next week as I digest my notes and try to relate them back to education and my study tour.
I was very fortunate to score an invite for a tour and lunch with staff.
Really interesting day at the UN in Vienna today. I always knew that the UN was involved in International diplomacy but had no idea just how extensive their other operations were. I'll try to release a series of stories on some of their projects that relate to education over the next week.
Today I had a general tour and an overview plus enjoyed a nice lunch surrounded by all the nations of the world.
Vienna is one of 3 major UN offices in the world, the complex is absolutely huge and is effectively a city in it's own right, it has its own internal bank, post office, security services, catering etc...
The land it sits on is UN land and not covered by Austrian laws. It is almost a tiny country that is independent in all ways.
I found the work of the IAEA particularly interesting as its relates back to both technology but also energy development and of course the risk factors from rougue nation developments and the steps taken to monitor them.
